![]() I saw a concert here recently and from the beginning things were pretty terrible. Healthy police presence after the concert which was helpful because we went out a different way than we went in and they steered us in the right direction to our parking lot.So make sure you leave the same way you come in or you are in for a walk to your parking lot. We did see a couple people jump the barrier and get into the pit while the usher was distracted. I was sitting in the section right behind the pit and the ushers were doing a good job checking tickets and making sure people were not seat jumping. As far as security goes, I would say it was adequate compared to other venues. My wife and I have been to about 20 Metal concerts in the last 3 years without seeing any fights or people so drunk they couldn't function. Some of the other reviews mentioned severely drunk people. Again, get there early and plan on hanging out for an hour after the concert and you shouldn't have any issues. We knew leaving would be tough so we broke out the grill and cooked a late dinner in the parking lot. So if possible get there when the parking lots open. We tailgated until 430 and walked right in and through security with no issues. The lot opened at 1:50 and we drove right in and parked right next to the VIP parking. ![]() ![]() After reading about the parking nightmares, I was in line to park at 130. The show started at 530 and parking lots opened at 2. I will probably never go to another event here again based on this experience.Īfter reading the recent reviews I expected the worst. Well, another hour and a half later, we finally reached the exit. When the show was over, we walked back to the lot and decided for our own safety we would wait to leave until a bulk of the lot emptied out. Only one fight while in the pit, thankfully it was far behind us and I will say the staff was very quick to jump in and handle it to keep people safe. I was quite honestly terrified of what would encounter on the road after the event. What made it worse was that the "beer server" came around and kept serving them. The crowd was a mess, beer cups everywhere on the floor. You are so close to the artists, it makes for an awesome experience. We finally got the the pit area, and I will say, if you can afford the tickets, do it. We had pit tickets, so we then had to wait in yet another line to get a bracelet to wear into the pit. Once we were in, I was surprised that some of these highly drunk people were being served drinks. This didn't take long, but mostly because it took so long to get in the lot, that we had already missed the first two opening acts. Once you finally climb half a mountain through a very badly lit woodsy area surrounded by stumbling drunks, you reach the security gate. Granted, they made their choices, but there was no security in the parking lot, and I'm sure the police on site were overwhelmed to say the least. They couldn't walk, couldn't stand up, it was like we were in the Twilight Zone. Tents, RV's, grills, coolers, and left a mess everywhere. Once we got in, I thought we entered woodstock-there were drunk, sloppy people everywhere. It took us 2 hours to even access the parking lot from the road to the venue. I assumed this meant quick/easy access to the show (Jason Aldean/Kane Brown). I paid $50 for VIP parking for the event. With that said, there is a lot of negative that unfortunately doesn't make up for it. Right smack in the middle of the woods, and all you will hear is the music. Let me start by saying that the venue itself is beautiful.

![]() ![]() ![]() The crowds mean long table waits and improvised communal seating arrangements in the bar area that make more sense to haggard hostesses than paying guests. The place is nearly always packed-as a restaurant whose name guarantees booze and pastry is bound to be. Just like my buddy at the bar, I was ultimately won over.įortunately for Whiskey Cake, the restaurant rarely has to deal with skeptics like my curmudgeonly bar neighbor and me. I didn't eat or drink anything there that I'd classify as exceptional, but I found the vast majority of food satisfying. That appears to be largely true, although our server told us the kitchen couldn't take credit for the ketchup and a few other accoutrements the restaurant's wisely outsourced its breads to Empire Baking Co.Ĭonsidering the scope of its ambitions, Whiskey Cake does an admirable job. As servers are quick to tell their guests-even the ones who answer the standard "Have you dined with us before?" greeting in the affirmative-that Whiskey Cake makes everything from scratch. Still, I wondered if a restaurant with such a distinctly corporate vibe could make good on its locavore promise. ![]() Which doesn't mean the brick-walled warehouse of a room isn't impressive: The high ceiling and crook-necked double lamps on the bar give the restaurant the feel of a history museum's Gilded Age streetscape, minus the barber shop. The room partitions made from neat stacks of logs, the cow pictures in the entry breezeway, the wingback chairs in the scattered lounge areas and the clear Edison bulbs suspended from cables don't point to any individual personality. The restaurant seems so franchise-ready that I was surprised there wasn't a sales office out front. I know, because I wasn't sure I'd like it either. By the time I was called to a table, he seemed to have taken the restaurant off his long list of scorn-worthy targets. He loved it, and was equally taken by one of my deviled eggs, a trough of firm egg white heaped with a mustardy filling and garnished with translucent curlicues of salty gravlax. Like most of the drinkers who'd managed to snare a bar stool that night, he didn't have any intention of ordering a fancy-schmancy cocktail, especially one made with brown liquor.īut he needed something to pad his belly for more beer-drinking, so he and a friend went halfsies on a platter of cheeses and house-cured meats. He was pained by the shootings in Tucson, because the tragedy could cost a deserving astronaut the chance to go to space, and was appalled by Obama's Marxist tendencies. Over the course of two cocktails, I learned he liked beer, guns and tax cuts. My bar neighbor didn't strike me as the barbecue banh mi type. "This place used to be better," grumbled a former Plano Tavern regular sitting alongside me at the crescent-shaped bar. Looking for Plano Tavern's chili con queso or fried calamari? Afraid you'll have to make do with hummus plated with wedges of grilled pita and blistered oven-roasted tomatoes, or perhaps the Texas blue crab cakes. The cracks and snaps that soon thereafter reverberated through the room were the sounds of those old-timers whipping their necks around at the sight of the new restaurant's savvy menu of trendy pub grub. It wasn't designed for the beer-drinking traditionalists who used to swig frosted mugs of Miller Lite at the Plano Tavern, which previously occupied the building.īut when Whiskey Cake opened, Tavern vets flocked to it, grateful to have their neighborhood bar back. Whiskey Cake, the impressively thought-out pub by the Tollway in Plano, was designed for drinkers who don't laugh when their bartenders spritz their cocktails with atomized oils and diners who don't berate their servers when they learn their lukewarm tomato soup isn't eligible for a quick nuke, because the kitchen doesn't have a microwave. ![]() If you wish to reactivate the lock feature, press and hold the LOCK button again for 2 seconds. ![]() Whereas traditional factoring is initiated by the “seller” (the provider of goods or services), reverse factoring, also known as supply chain financing, is initiated by the “buyer” (company ordering goods or services). This is more common when a small-business owner has most or all their revenue tied up in a single large invoice and requires immediate cash to continue operating. When both parties come together for a single financial transaction-to factor only one invoice-it’s referred to as spot factoring. ![]() Some businesses factor frequently, while others do so intermittently as needed. One of the major benefits of factoring is that a business can choose which invoices to factor and how often to factor. With non-recourse factoring, you don’t have an obligation to pay the remaining balance if the customer doesn’t pay. With recourse factoring, you are ultimately responsible for paying the factoring company back any amount advanced to you if your customer doesn’t pay. Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee a company will pay their invoice. The checks a factoring company performs on your customers prior to accepting an invoice for payment go a long way to ensuring the customer will make good on their obligation. Just as there are several ways to use your outstanding invoices to solve cash flow problems, there are several types of invoice factoring too. With discounting, you’re responsible for getting the payments collected, but your customers make their payments into an account that’s managed by your discounting company. Again, with factoring, your factoring company collects from your customers. Invoice discounting is similar to factoring, but the biggest difference is in who collects. However, a true financing arrangement does involve debt, so it’s important to confirm the terms before signing. Is Accounts Receivable Financing or Factoring Considered Debt?įactoring is a debt-free solution because your customers are the ones who pay the balance, not you. Customers are therefore aware when you’re working with a factoring company, but because it’s quite common and factoring companies often make it easier to pay, it’s usually seen as a positive thing. The factoring company is responsible for collecting from your customers, and you have no debt to pay back. You’re essentially selling your invoices to factoring providers at a discount rate. When the term includes the word “factoring,” you’re not borrowing money or taking out a loan. Because you retain the balance sheet, it’s like any other type of loan-your customers will have no way of knowing you’re leveraging it unless you tell them. You’re responsible for collecting from your customers and you’ll pay back your loan with interest in installments. ![]() Therefore, in true accounts receivable financing, you’re borrowing money and using your invoices as collateral. However, the word “financing” references taking out a loan. Invoice discounting, invoice financing or receivable factoring often get lumped into the same group too. In this contract, the factoring company pays the provider a percentage of the face value of an invoice amount and then assumes responsibility for collecting the outstanding invoice amount owed for goods or services by the customer.įind Out If You Qualify What is the Benefit of Using a Factoring Company?Ĭompanies that bill other businesses for goods and services provided often wait weeks or months for the invoice to get paid. More precisely, a factoring agreement is a contract between a provider of goods and services and a financial institution known as a factoring company. Invoice factoring helps businesses solve cash flow shortfalls by providing immediate cash for their unpaid invoices. We saw some early moral decline in Methodism with the sins of slavery and racism, and NOT just in the South. There are all kinds of examples of lay people facing temporary but serious consequences for sins ranging from getting drunk to wife beating.īut over the course of the 19 th century, we saw a decline in really expecting too much of our laypeople, and then our ministers. What really set us apart was the degree to which we practiced sometimes rather demanding levels of church discipline, for not just our leaders and clergy but also our lay members. It dramatically highlights how when Methodism first began, we were a really high-commitment movement, that really demanded a lot of sacrifice and forsaking of worldly comforts for the sake of the Gospel. Many of us have seen that famous picture of the hard-working, circuit-riding preacher of early Methodism. ![]() When you think about it, any Protestant, by definition, believes that there are some issues worth splitting the church over. Unless the person saying it is in the process of becoming Roman Catholic. And these two things really get to the heart of what this schism is all about.īy the way, if you hear any United Methodist claim they are absolutely against EVER splitting the church, that is NOT a serious idea. We have a history, going back about two centuries now, of breakdown in our discipline, and breakdown in our doctrine. The impending split is the result of an extensive history which dates back long before the present debates over sexual morality. The reality is that our division has been a long time coming. There is some truth to that, but that is really a misleading way to view things. You may have heard that our division is because of homosexuality. Why is the United Methodist Church splitting? Hopefully, by now, you’ve all heard that our denomination is headed for a major division, and that the need for this is widely agreed upon by the leaders of all major factions. I delivered this speech for the Missouri chapter of the Wesleyan Covenant Association (WCA) as part of their monthly Speaker Series.Ī video of my remarks and PowerPoint presentation can be found here. (Note: Beyond the historical background below, if you are seeking documentation for major issues other than gay weddings on which the United Methodist Church is becoming increasingly different from both the Global Methodist Church and the UMC as we have previously known it, you can find such documentation at Why is the United Methodist Church splitting? The following is an adapted and slightly abridged version of remarks I shared on January 13 giving a bird’s-eye-view of the long history that has led the United Methodist Church to its present point of division. See some of the articles published at the bottom of this page Since 2016, after an agreement between JGI Spain and the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology of the Max Planck Institute in Germany, the JGI Research Department was in charge of collecting detailed data for an important comparative study about the diverse ecological and ethological aspects of chimpanzee populations all over Africa, which included tool, isotope, genetic, diet, urine and pathogen samples, as well as a grid of camera traps around the Dindéfélo Community Nature Reserve. Fundacion Bioparchas also supported research & conservation activities in adjacent areas to identify and protect chimpanzee habitat. Also, the Research Department has launched a study of the chimpanzee microbiome, in collaboration with IRSI (AIDS Research Institute in Barcelona). Other projects have been developed with the support of the Copito de Nieve (Snowflake) research grant by the Fundación Zoo de Barcelona, a project that has been useful to evaluate the impact of tourism on the behaviour of chimpanzees in Dindéfélo. Subsequently, and thanks to the support given by Fundación Zoo de Barcelonathrough the PRIC grant, the Research Department has carried out different chimpanzee censuses and studies in the RNCD (i.e., a study of human/chimpanzee conflict), always bearing in mind and applying the best practices for field research and conflict that were established by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).įurthermore, since the chimpanzee population in the Dindéfélo Community Nature Reserve shares habitat with groups in Guinea, and since JGI has the objective of increasing the protection of this chimpanzee subspecies ( Pan troglodytes verus), the JGI in Senegal carried out an ecological characterization, a chimpanzee census and a socioeconomic study in the Subprefecture of Lebekere (Guinea), thanks to EAZA’s funding. The research and development activities were centred on the ecological characterization and the socioeconomic study for the establishment of the RNCD, both activities having been financed by the Fundación Biodiversidad and Wula Nafaa/USAID. The department focuses on the ecological monitoring of the chimpanzee groups in the Dindéfélo Community Nature Reserve (RNCD) and on the prospection of other areas for the implementation of the programme and the conservation of chimpanzee habitat. The research programme developed since 2009 has accompanied the conservation activities. Studies done by the JGIS in Senegal and Guinea Little by little, the Jane Goodall Institute Research and Conservation team started growing, based on this first group of researchers and volunteers. In March 2012 five members of the Roots&Shoots Madrid group arrived in Senegal and joined the research department and the programme in order to work in the new sites.
